Historic buildings, stores, and pedestrians in Old Pasadena

Editorial reconstruction of galleries and artists in early Old Pasadena
Editorial Reconstruction: Artists, galleries, and independent merchants began occupying buildings that established businesses had overlooked.
Editorial reconstruction of an innovative Old Pasadena restaurant in the 1980s
Editorial Reconstruction: Restaurants such as Café Jacoulet made an evening in the emerging Old Pasadena feel like a discovery.

One of the central figures in turning that vision into reality was Marsha Rood, Pasadena’s Development Administrator from 1982 to 2000.

Working with preservationists, business owners and city leaders, Rood helped bring the public and private pieces together, including the parking structures and streetscape improvements that made Old Pasadena’s revival workable.

She would later describe the transformation as the work of many people—and her own role was helping put those pieces into place.

Editorial reconstruction of the 1985 Pasadena Marketplace launch
Editorial Reconstruction: John Wilson promoted his Marketplace vision with antique trolleys, music, food, and plenty of showmanship.
