There are plenty of reasons to try True Food Kitchen’s new fall menu

Scrumptious food that looks appealing and makes you feel healthy is what you’ll find at True Food Kitchen in Old Town Pasadena. I went for a first time on Sunday and I’m happy to say that they keep their promise of “uniquely delicious dishes that help you on your quest to live well.”

With indoor and outdoor dining, True Food Kitchen welcomes young and old (and even your furry friends), providing service that is both friendly and efficient. Their menu rotates regularly to feature the season’s best ingredients, so what you’ll find right now is their fall offering.

This is the place where you can choose between a “Refresher” like their Kale Aid (made of kale, ginger, apple, celery, cucumber, and lemon), and a fancy cocktail like the Thai Grapefruit Martini (made with organic vodka, Thai basil, and grapefruit), or even a delicious bottle of wine (like the Sauvignon Blanc that I enjoyed).

I love my fish, so as a starter I picked the Wild Caught Albacore Tataki (made with avocado, jalapeño, toasted sesame, and yuzu ponzu) [$14]. This dish is gluten free, one of several of such options. In fact, there are various vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free selections clearly marked on the menu. This starter was fabulous. It took my companion and me no time to clean up the plate. That ponzu sauce was perfection.

As an entrée I picked the Poke Bowl, a gorgeously presented plate of wild caught albacore, avocado, quinoa rice, mushroom, snow pea, cucumber, cashew, and turmeric ponzu [$22]. Every bit of it was delectable. My companion ordered the Moroccan Chicken, which was served with misson fig, heirloom carrot, chickpea, olive, spinach, chermoula, and greek yogurt [$21]. Needless to say, I tried a bit of that too, and it was definitely tasty.

Even after that fantastic parade of delightful food, one of the most exciting moments of my meal came when I realized I could order vanilla ice cream… vegan, therefore non-dairy, vanilla ice cream, that is. Do you know how difficult it is to find such a thing?! And it was lip-smacking!

All and all, True Food Kitchen made a fan of me. I have the feeling that you’ll love it too. If you live in Pasadena, give it a try. They are located at 168 West Colorado Blvd., in Old Town. See the menu and more information at TrueFoodKitchen.com
