Fashion week is hitting Los Angeles this month. From October 12th until the 16th, LA will get a bit hipper; a bit trendier; a bit designier. The coordinator of fashion week? Style Fashion Week. Their resume? “Producing globally recognized events for world class designers.” We’re talking New York, Dubai, Mexico, The Hamptons, and? Of course—Los Angeles.
Less than 20 miles from Pasadena, West Hollywood will play host to SFW. The 80’ x 8’ runway will sit at the Pacific Design Center, which accommodates up to 900 guests. Along with designer presentations, Style Week also includes a Fashion Market—a space that allows vendors to sell directly to consumers.
Fashion Week is always unusual to me. Watching models strut their stuff in styles two to three seasons in the future. But, I get it. And I must admit, it’s rather amazing seeing what designers have created already for spring and summer.
If you can’t make it to SFW this year, why not peruse the windows of Old Pasadena? After all, Pasadena has its share of designer wear too. Elisa B, one of Pasadena’s charming boutiques, offers top designers including 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, Helmut Lang, Milly, Shoshanna, Tibi, and more. Clothes Heaven, a long-standing vintage store in Old Pasadena, sells Gucci clothes, Louis Vitton shoes, and Chanel purses, to name a few. So whether you’re interested in previewing SFW’s designers in Los Angeles—like London fashion designer Julia Clancey, luxury designer Shanna Gall, life style brand Moods of Norway, or Project Runway’s Richard Hallmarq—or shopping high-end trends in Old Pasadena, you can get your fashion on this week.
