Mother’s Day 2017 will be celebrated this Sunday, May 14. We want you to show appreciation to the person that brought you into this world and, because we want you to do better than flowers, below are two events happening in Pasadena on the exact date. Either one of them could add lovely music and inspiration to your mom’s day. 

Cal Phil presents PEZZONE AND FRIENDS at Noor – 2 p.m.

An intimate chamber music experience, PEZZONE AND FRIENDS will feature the talent of piano virtuoso Bryan Pezzone, who has become a crowd favorite for his ability to take song titles from the audience and immediately compose and perform an amazing mix of them all. Pezzone will perform an assortment of classical and jazz music, with violin, bass and drums accompaniment.

This final concert of the Music, Martinis and the Maestro series will start at 2:00 pm in the Sofia Ballroom at Noor in Pasadena’s Paseo Colorado. Tickets for this special concert may be purchased at www.calphil.com or by calling (626) 304-0333.

Los Angeles’s Children Chorus Spring Concert at the Pasadena Presbyterian Church – 7 p.m.

The acclaimed Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC), always championing rising and established composers that write for treble choir, will present on this date the world premiere of BREATHE IN HOPE, by Los Angeles-based composer Dale Trumbore.  This work is set to text found on social media imploring people not to quickly forget recent clashes between African Americans and police.  Trumbore is among a new generation of composers helping to expand and reinvigorate the choral repertoire.  The program will also feature works by Holst, Handel, and Victoria, as well as a vibrant mix of music both contemporary and traditional.

Director Anne Tomlinson will conduct the chorus’s Concert Choir and Chamber Singers.  Associate Artistic Director Mandy Brigham will lead the Intermediate Choir, Diana Landis will lead the Apprentice Choir, and Dr. Steven Kronauer will conduct the Young Men’s Ensemble.  The choirs will perform separately and combined.
