In response to the global environmental crisis, Los Angeles and Pasadena artists and arts organizations are uniting for a citywide arts festival entitled VisionLA ’15 Climate Action Arts Festival (VisionLA ’15). Happening throughout Greater Los Angeles from Monday, November 30, to Friday, December 11, VisionLA ‘15 will aim to stimulate a creative response to the climate crisis through arts engagement.

The festival will coincide with the United Nations 21st Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP21) in Paris and is inspired by the concurrent ArtCOP21, a Paris-wide arts festival that advocates for an international climate treaty and sustainable change.

One of the venues that will be hosting the festival is the Armory Center for the Arts in our beautiful Pasadena. Following is a list of the events that will be held at the Center.

Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. – Films – Soil CarbonCowboys (56 min) and 100 Mules Walking the Los Angeles Aqueduct (60 min).

 Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. – Films – Green Shorts: Films (RE) Imagining Our Troubled World and The Wisdom to Survive – Climate Change, Capitalism & Community (56 min).

 Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. – Films – Standing on Sacred Ground – Pilgrims and Tourists (56 min) and Standing on Sacred Ground – Fire and Ice (56 min).

 Dec. 5 and 6 from noon to 5 p.m. – Art – A showcase of the artwork of Ron Zeno, who makes large detailed sculptures out of recycled cardboard.

Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. – Live dance piece entitled Consumed by Move the World, a youth performing group ages 9 to 19 that blends art with social change.

Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. – Films – Standing on Sacred Ground – Islands of Sanctuary (56 min) and Standing on Sacred Ground – Profit and Loss (56 min).

 Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. – Worship simulcast of Reverend Billy & the Stop Shopping Choir, a radical performance community based in New York City, with 50 performing members. This will be followed by a film entitled The Monsanto Years.

Dec. 6 at 1 p.m. – Humorous short film and performance (with a satirical edge) by a group of “scientists” studying goofy things about climate change.

Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. – Readings of original work with environmental themes.

Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. – Film – True Cost (92 min).

You won’t have to leave our beloved town to participate, learn, and support the VisionLA ’15 festival. However, many more events are planned as part of it in nearby towns like Highland Park, Boyle Heights, and Los Angeles.
