Family History/ The Stories We Own is a special event that will be held on Jan. 6, 2017, at Vroman’s Bookstore in Hastings Ranch, in anticipation of the Sierra Madre Playhouse’s first production of 2017, entitled BEE-LUTHER-HATCHEE. The Jan. 6 event will be free of charge, reservations are not required, and refreshments will be served.
The Duncans of Pasadena have kept their African-American family story alive and have told it in several different formats, including a museum exhibition and a new film. At Family History/The Stories We Own you will meet some of the 13 siblings from the Duncan family, as they consider the value of keeping and telling family stories. You will also be treated to a scene from the upcoming play BEE-LUTHER-HATCHE and you will be invited to meet the actors and the creative team members from the play, which will open at the Sierra Madre Playhouse on Jan. 13 and will continue through Feb. 18. In this play, an African-American publisher travels to meet in person the writer of a Black woman’s prize-winning memoir. The publisher’s journey leads to outcomes she would never have suspected.
If you attend the Family History/ The Stories We Own at Vroman’s Hastings Ranch Bookstore, you will additionally receive a certificate to purchase up to four tickets at $5 off their regular price.
