Hidden Gems & the Colorado Street Bridge Party – Greater Pasadena’s Weekend Wonders
A Bridge with History and a Party with Purpose
As we explore the city, don’t forget to check out some of the lesser-known Pasadena attractions that make this community truly special.
This Saturday, one of Pasadena’s most iconic structures—the Colorado Street Bridge—becomes a living celebration. First opened in 1913, this graceful Beaux-Arts bridge has long been both a feat of engineering and a beloved community landmark. Each summer, Pasadena Heritage hosts a not-to-be-missed party on the bridge: a pedestrian-only evening with live jazz, vintage cars, food from local favorites, and the kind of golden-hour views that remind you why we live here.
The bridge’s future has sparked ongoing debate, especially surrounding the addition of fencing or barriers due to safety concerns. Preservationists and mental health advocates continue to discuss how best to maintain the bridge’s historic beauty while protecting the public. This event not only celebrates the bridge but also invites conversation about its legacy and purpose.

Whether you’re watching a child’s first steps on the lawn or catching a folk trio by the rose garden, Garfield Park is a reminder that community thrives in simple spaces.

Originally completed in the 1930s and lovingly restored, the garden features koi ponds, hand-built stone bridges, and tea ceremonies. While it’s open by reservation, Friday evening twilight hours (from 5–7 PM) offer the most peaceful moments of all—when the day’s heat fades and the lanterns begin to glow.
