Southeast Pasadena consists of several significant neighborhoods: Madison Heights and Oak Knoll, South Lake, the Playhouse District and Marceline (mostly Pasadena City College and commercial activity surrounding the campus) and Lamanda Park (mostly warehouses, factories, lumber yards and garages.)
South Lake Avenue is a shopping corridor with a Macy’s department store dating to the 1940s with mid-century modern architecture. There are many shops, restaurants and offices here. Southeast Pasadena also includes, among other notable landmarks, the California Institute of Technology, the Pasadena Playhouse, Vroman’s Bookstore, Pacific Asia Museum, Fuller Seminary, Pasadena Museum of California Art and Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, the Ice House Comedy Club and Pasadena City College.
Some of the city’s newer condominium projects are concentrated in the Southeast, as well as the Madison Heights and Oak Knoll neighborhoods with architecturally significant homes and upscale tree-lined streets.
