AroundTownPasadena.com got a sneak peak last week at the newest restaurant addition in town – The Crack Shack, which opens this Monday on Green St., diagonally from 85C Bakery.
Workers were busy putting the last touches in the casual venue (inspired by a shack but far from being one) of wooden large tables, paper towel rolls, huge screen TVs, and a full bar, while Chef Richard Blais was hard at work serving platters of his various offerings, including sandwiches, bowls, and gourmet, delicious, fried chicken.
Yours truly will have to go back for a full portion of their fried chicken, which is tender and covered in a delicious blend of spices, ground to order, that come from Le Sanctuaire in San Francisco. Their Chicken Thigh Pastrami, a sandwich they have created exclusively for this Pasadena branch, was also quite tasty. If you like lighter options, you must try their Baja Chop, a toss of greens with radishes, guacamole, and a delicious charred poblano dressing, or perhaps their Border Slaw, a fruit salad that combines papaya, mango, jicama, coconut, and pineapple, with the unexpected flavors of cilantro and chili. And if you have a sweet tooth, you’ll love their milkshakes, made with Afters Ice Cream.
Because of its relaxed environment, you can visit with your entire family while wearing your favorite clothes. You can also catch a game while enjoying the bar offerings, one of which is the Scramble, a vodka blackberry mule that, as far as I’m concerned, everybody should try. (After a couple of those, you’ll find it super funny to take selfies next to the oversized chicken statue that guards the main entrance!)
The Crack Shack is located at 30 W. Green St., in Old Pasadena. The restaurant will open daily starting at 10:30 am, and until 10 pm weekdays and midnight on the weekends. For additional information call (424) 901-0077.
