Next week, on Saturday, July 21, Principal Pops Conductor Michael Feinstein will put down the conducting baton and instead pick up the microphone for Summer of Love at the Los Angeles County Arboretum. You can spend an evening with the Pasadena POPS, led by Resident Pops Conductor Larry Blank, as Michael Feinstein sings the hits of the ’60s. Taking on everything from the Doors, to Sinatra, to Tom Jones, Emmy and Grammy-nominated Feinstein will define the sounds of that amazing decade.
An old-fashioned crooner with luxuriant vocals that meld the traditions of old and new, Feinstein has been dubbed the “Ambassador of the Great American Songbook” for his preserving, presenting, and interpreting of that seminal body of work. For this swingin’ night under the stars, Feinstein has curated an evening of songs that encompass the wide-ranging scope of the Sixties hit parade. “This amalgam of Mad Men, the pop psychedelic era, and Broadway is challenging to encapsulate in one concert, but that is going to be the joy, especially having the latitude to create all of those sounds with a symphony orchestra,” said Feinstein.
All Pasadena POPS concerts are held at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden. Grounds will open for picnicking and dining at 5:30 pm and the performance will begin at 7:30 pm. There is table seating, or you can bring low back chairs and blankets. You are welcome to prepare your own picnic, but the venue also hosts food trucks and two full beverage centers serving fine wines, beer, coffee and soft drinks.
Besides the stage, the audience gets the ultimate outdoor concert experience with large LED video screens to see Michael Feinstein and the orchestra up close, and superior sound and the high-quality production value that is a signature of the Pasadena POPS. You may also visit the Pasadena Humane Society’s Mobile Adoption Unit, which will be on-site prior to each concert with deserving animals in need of a forever home as part of the Pups for POPS program.
The Arboretum is located at 301 North Baldwin Ave., Arcadia, CA. All concertgoers enjoy free parking at the adjacent Westfield Santa Anita shopping center with complimentary non-stop shuttle service to the Arboretum’s main entrance.
Single tickets start at $25 and are available by calling the box office at (626)-793-7172, online at PasadenaSymphony-Pops.org, or at the Arboretum on the day of the concert.
