Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO)’s virtuosic musicians will serve as musical tour guides for In Focus, the Orchestra’s newest chamber music series curated by Concertmaster Margaret Batjer, which continues with a program of sublime clarinet quintets featuring Principal Clarinet Joshua Ranz on Wednesday, April 4, at 7:30 pm, at the Rothenberg Hall of The Huntington in San Marino (1151 Oxford Road
San Marino, CA 91108).
The program will include Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet and Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet. In addition to Ranz, other performing LACO artists will be Assistant Concertmaster Tereza Stanislav, Violin Cheryl Norman-Brick, Viola Robert Brophy and Principal Cello Andrew Shulman. NPR’s Renée Montagne will moderate a short discussion at the conclusion of the program.
Ranz is also principal clarinet of the New West Symphony, has been a member of the Pacific Symphony since 1997, and performs regularly with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Ranz, who has recorded with LACO and the Pacific Symphony, is active in the television and motion picture industry, performing on more than 100 soundtracks for such composers as John Williams, Michael Giacchino, James Horner, Randy Newman, Alan Silvestri, Jerry Goldsmith, Alexander Desplat. He recent films credits include Coco, Lady Bird, Downsizing, A Wrinkle in Time, Star Wars VII and Rogue One, The Incredibles 2 and Ready Player One.
Tickets for this event start at $49 and are available online at laco.org and by calling (213) 622-7001. Single tickets can also be purchased at the venue box office on the night of the concert, if tickets remain. Discounted tickets are available by phone for groups of 12 or more. College students with valid student ID may purchase tickets for $8, subject to availability.
This concert will repeat on April 5, at 7:30 pm at the Moss Theater (3131 Olympic Boulevard, Santa Monica, CA 90404).
