St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and there a bunch of bars, pubs, and other ways to get your green on around town Pasadena and the surrounding area. Check out a few of the best ways to feel the luck of the Irish this March 17th—and any other time you want a great drink in great company without hopping on a plane.
Head to an assuming spot on Mission Street in South Pasadena for a traditional Irish pub experience at Griffins of Kinsale. Live Irish music fills the air most nights of the week, which is a perfect accompaniment to traditional Irish dishes like St. Patty’s Day favorite corned beef and cabbage or stews and brats. And of course, beer and drinks to wash it all down.
If you’re feeling like going a little further afield, Limericks Tavern on Alhambra’s Main Street is a good spot to booze. An updated take on both Irish and American pub food, you’ll find an expansive food menu and a very impressive list of beers, with 60 on draught at any time. Check it out for St. Patrick’s Day if you’re heading over with a group that ranges from stew lovers to burger fans.
T Boyle’s Tavern near the Ice House is always a great spot to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day. You’ll find a special corned beef centric menu that pairs well with the huge list of beers and ciders that are on tap.
Lucky Baldwin’s is a Pasadena favorite for pretty much any event or occasion that calls for a drink—from watching sports to just hanging out. The British themed bar is also big on including some Irish touches—and plenty of beer from all of Europe and the UK, making it a perfect fit for an untraditionally traditional St. Patrick’s Day.
The Blind Donkey isn’t exactly an Irish bar—but the whiskey heavy menu does have an impressive selection from all over the world—including Ireland. Try a flight if you can’t decide and want to change things up from the usual Jameson.
And if you want to stay home and enjoy the freedom of not having to order a ride home after some heavy drinking, consider renting an inflatable pub for your Pasadena backyard and share the holiday with friends and neighbors.
Another option is to celebrate the day with the kids. On March 17, head to Old Pasadena for St. Patrick’s Day in the Courtyard. The family friendly event includes Irish dancing—including lessons—as well as performances by professional Irish dancers and musicians. You’ll also get a chance to make crafts and enjoy other forms of colorful fun!
