Last week was my fourth consecutive year attending A CHRISTMAS CAROL at A Noise Within. Would I do that unless it was absolutely wonderful? The story of the grouchy Ebenezer Scrooge, whose attitude the Ghosts of Christmas change for the better, is one that you should watch if you want to be infused with a good dose of holiday spirit. This production of Dickens’ lovely story, directed of Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, is full of color, music, and dance, and it simply sends you home joyful.
Geoff Elliott is again the Scrooge, a part that he’s done for now six years and in which he seems to get increasingly comfortable. His gestures and dances will make you laugh and his transformation from an angry old man to a spirited uncle and neighbor is delightful. Most of the talented cast returns annually, some of the children in the play are basically growing right before our eyes. This year there are a few new faces, like Peter James Smith as Bob Cratchit, which he does brilliantly.
One of the highlights of this production is its elaborate musical numbers. Every year I go home singing “Glorious,” a catchy, uplifting song that I promise you will love too.
From the decorations in the lobby to the last note of the play, an evening of A CHRISTMAS CAROL at A Noise Within will make for a charming holiday outing for your family.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL will perform Friday to Sunday through Dec. 17 and every day (except Monday) on Christmas week. There are both matinee and evening shows available.
