It’s no secret that I adore autumn. There’s something about the change of season that instantly puts me in a cozy, creative, happy mood. Some might look at fall as a time of hibernation. But I seem to come alive during these months. True, fall in Southern California differs completely from fall everywhere else—we’re still getting temps in the 80s and 90s (100 on Tuesday. Come. On.) And yet, I’ve determined weather has little to do with my affinity for the season. Yes, I love the crisp morning air and cooler temperatures. However, I adore the change of light outside, the colors of leaves, and the fun traditions that usually come with this time of year.
While I’ve never actually made a fall bucket list before, I thought it would be fun to jot down some activities I’d love to do this season and pair each outing with the perfect outfit. Ready?
Carve a pumpkin—last year was the first time in a long time that my husband, friends and I had an old fashion carving party. And it was so much fun, we’re repeating it this year! There’s nothing that gets me in the mood for Halloween more than carving pumpkins. The perfect outfit to wear? Something comfortable and roomy for all the odd angles you might find yourself in while slicing and dicing your pumpkin.
Go apple picking—my husband and I have been going to Oak Glenn in the fall for years. We’ve only picked apples once; however, we love heading up for the cooler temps, the apple cinnamon donuts, BBQ, and all things fall. I try and wear something a bit dressy for the occasion, even if it is outdoors and casual. Something about dressing up makes it feel all the more special. And? Because it’s up in the mountains, it usually includes a jacket and boots. Huzzah!
Watch a spooky(ish) movie—all right. I’ll be honest. Spooky to me means watching something like Hocus Pocus or Young Frankenstein. That’s as creepy as it gets over here. Still! It sets the mood. Burning candles, sipping cider, and relaxing on the couch in my cozies are some of my favorite things to do in the fall.
Nothing says cozy more than a sweatshirt dress—am I right? Like this one in dusty pink or grey with embroidery details. For added warmth, slip on some cozy socks and a scarf (in leopard, no doubt) and you’re ready for a night in.
