Not too far away are a few places that have already earned positive reputations. Check them out as you explore more of why Pasadena is a great place for foodies to live.
Honeybird in La Cañada Flintridge
Fried chicken has become a major player in LA’s dining scene and since opening last year in nearby La Cañada Flintridge, Honeybird has become a favorite. Honeybird is a modern comfort food restaurant. It kind of looks like a kitchen from Country Living, all cozy and homey but updated thanks to white paint and light woods. Same goes for the dishware. Dishes are more the type you’d find in a home kitchen than a restaurant, but the unusual shapes and styles are a contemporary twist. And the aesthetic carries to the food, which is Southern based but with a California flair. Fried chicken is brined for over 24 hours before being fried to a crisp and accompanied by sides like bacon cheddar biscuits, Brussel sprouts and more. And don’t forget to save room for pie—Salted Honey speaks to the restaurant’s name and banana cream is always a good bet. You can also preorder pies 48 hours in advance—which is good to know for the upcoming pie-filled holidays that are all too close for comfort.
Faubourg in Sierra Madre
French Chef Anthony Bar opened Faubourg in Sierra Madre, creatively merging his home cooking French roots with his professional chef experience. The result is a modern take on French cuisine in the former Zugo’s space. As Pasadena Weekly writer Lisa Dupuy notes, Faubourg is aptly named as it means suburb in French and Sierra Madre is suburban location for the restaurant. Beautifully decorated with copper and marble accents and a moss wall, Faubourg’s plates are well presented and filled with vibrant flavors. It’s a perfect spot for stopping in for a weekend brunch of eggs and omelets or checking in after work for “social hour” which includes light bites and sides like fries as well as low prices on wine. Not to mention decadent lunch and dinner menus with fish, chicken and meat dishes and modern desserts like deconstructed apple tarts and chocolate concoctions.
