Pasadena’s food scene had a busy summer that shows no signs of slowing down as we head into fall. Here are all the places that we’ve discovered over the summer and a few places that you can look forward to checking out in the near future:
Bay Poke is proof positive that Pasadena isn’t tired of poke yet. Bay Poke first opened in Anaheim and has since opened up several more locations throughout Southern California. Yelpers are loving the big portions, friendly serving and array of toppings and options. http://baypoke.com
Fig Sprout is a cute café that is serving roasted chicken with a selection of sides. The menu at Fig Sprout is kind of like a modern Thanksgiving dinner, but with chicken as the star. Locals love not only the chicken, but accompaniments like mint sauce and freshly brewed and flavored ice tea. https://figsprout.com
Hulun Beir brings a new modern hot pot spot to town. Try Hulun Beir for happy hour to enjoy the international chain that focuses on Mongolian cuisine, including skewers of proteins and veggies. The menu is vast and offerings noodles, pancakes, soups, salads and more goodies. http://www.hulunbeir.com
FrenchiFornia combines decadent French pastries with California cuisine in a perfect meshing of items like quiche, croissants and other classic sweets. Eclairs are both sweet and savory so that you can have your lunch and dessert and the spot manages to evoke a sense of European tradition with the modern aesthetic of California. It’s only been open a short time, but already FrenchiFornia looks to be a neighborhood favorite. http://frenchifornia.business.site
Since the opening of Soh Grill House earlier this year there’s no need to venture out to Koreatown. Eater praises Soh Grill House for the updated take on Korean barbecue including high-tech grills and exhaust systems that go well with the quality food, including kalbi tacos that will change your mind about fusion cuisine.
Rose City Coffee promises to do some good with every cup. The coffee cart partners with others to provide opportunities for homeless and at-risk youth to learn a skill and improve their lives and is currently in the process of opening a permanent shop over on Colorado. http://www.rosecitycoffee.org
Great Maple is a Southern California chain opening up in the Paseo later this fall. The spot is a modernized Cheesecake Factory/Houstons offering a huge selection of menu items that will likely be a prime place to stop while shopping—or before a show. http://thegreatmaple.com
