Fishwives Opens to Feed Pasadena’s Appetite for Seafood

September 15, 2017 By Carly Zinderman Leave a Comment

Fishwives is Pasadena’s latest seafood restaurant to hit the Old Pasadena dining scene. Soft-opened earlier this month, the fish focused space has already earned rave reviews on Yelp, from locals and beyond.

The modern seafood joint makes a lot of a small space, including having a bar to watch as your food is prepped and a white and bright focus that is somehow reminiscent of waterside dining with a light and open feel including whitewashed walls and concrete floors.

The menu at Fishwives is designed to entice people from all seafood standpoints, with fried, steamed and raw options. The menu also borrows from many different seafood cultures with East Coast style crab and lobster rolls and steamed baskets. There also many dishes with a more Asian-Pacific flair, including ceviche, tempura, chirashi and handrolls. Basically, anyway that you can imagine eating seafood, Fishwives has come up with a way to best enjoy it.

Not to be missed is the raw selection, which includes many different oyster varieties served with mignonette. Amongst the more photogenic options look to be baskets filled with uni and scallops served in their stylish shells.

Sides like a baked mac n cheese, fries, coleslaw and more help to round out the meal and are designed to be shared by the table so that you can try more options. There’s also a decent looking selection of wine and beer and even a few sakes, should you go with an Asian dish. The wine program is especially of interest should you order by the glass as Fishwives has an eco-friendly tap program on hand that isn’t typical of many places.

If Fishwives isn’t enough to satisfy your seafood craving, check out Lost at Sea. Opened earlier this year, Lost at Sea is just around the corner from Fishwives and recently announced it is open for lunch with a menu filled with classic melts, along with salads and bowls available with and without seafood—in case you happening to be dining with a landlubber.

Both seafood restaurants are certainly welcome in town as they offer lots of selection and different viewpoints.
