The Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA) just announced its ¡Fiesta Cubana! benefit, which will be held October 7, 2017. Honoring art and education advocates Reed and Chris Halladay and artist and educator Dave Lefner, the Cuban and Hollywood themed celebration draws inspiration from the PMCA exhibition Hollywood in Havana: Five Decades of Cuban Posters Promoting U.S. Films—the Museum’s contribution to the Getty-led Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA initiative— which is now on view and will continue through January 7, 2018. Proceeds from the event will benefit the PMCA’s mission to present dynamic exhibitions of California art as well as its expanding education and engagement initiative.
Community leaders Chris and Reed Halladay have been among the most committed to the PMCA during its 15-year history. As one of the Museum’s longest-serving trustees, Reed, along with Chris, has always supported the PMCA’s efforts to expand and strengthen arts education. He recently led the charge as PMCA broadened its educational offerings to encompass the diverse community programs that have become the Museum’s signature.
Dave Lefner, a native Angeleno and one of the country’s foremost reduction linocut artists, helped widen the scope of PMCA programming with his highly popular series of printmaking workshops, which continues at the Museum this fall in conjunction with his PMCA exhibition LA Redux: Reduction Linocuts by Dave Lefner.
¡Fiesta Cubana! will celebrates Cuban and Los Angeleno traditions as well as the contributions these three outstanding individuals have made to the longevity of the PMCA, California art, and arts education. Inspired by vibrant Cuban film posters and the creativity and free expression used by artists to create them, ¡Fiesta Cubana! promises to be a lively affair just like the cultures it recognizes. Set against a backdrop of classic silent films and Cuban décor, the evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 7:00 pm followed by delicious Cuban botanas and drinks, live music, custom screenprints, and other surprises. Decked in their best Havana or Hollywood ensembles, guests will dance Salsa, Conga, Rumba, and more, amidst the PMCA’s iconic Kenny Scharf Kosmic Krylon Garage, which will be transformed into a tropical Havana and hot Hollywood night. A silent auction with works by some of California’s most talented artists and an array of exclusive items will complete the evening.
Tickets are $150 and can be purchased online at bit.ly/fiesta_cubana_2017, where a full list of silent auction items and event details will be made available closer to the event. You can also call Director of Development Maryrose McMahon at 626.568.3665 x17.
