Pasadena’s dining scene is growing this summer with several new places that have opened up in the past few months, or are planning to open up soon. And the best part is that no two places are alike—just more options in a city that has long been obsessed with food. Check out some of the new eateries around town where you can try something new—or a new version of an old favorite.
Pasadena’s love of poke shows no signs of slowing down as another poke joint has opened around town. Poke Bar is the latest poke place to show up around town. Pasadena Now reports that Poke Bar has roots as a sushi spot in Northridge and has transitioned to poke as its preferred form of raw fish. You can build your own bowl filled with rice and greens and Poke Bar has more toppings than average in addition to featuring tofu as a protein, so that vegans and non-fish eaters can indulge. Poke Bar takes pride in offering more customization than other poke places and larger than usual protein portions. Stop in for the daily Happy Hour from 4pm to 8pm when you can get your bowl for half off.
Cos & Pi is a gourmet vision of a neighborhood eatery open for breakfast and lunch—with the occasional dinner tasting as well. Family run by brothers Casey and Kyle Wiele and Casey’s wife Xochilt Perez, the whole lot has loads of experience in the restaurant industry and it shows with the creative takes and attention to detail on the menu. Be sure to indulge in a pastry as Perez is a trained pastry chef and does all the breads and sweets for the restaurant. Coffee is provided by Jones and there are non-caffeinated drinks as well.
Plancha Tacos is expanding from the Westside to Pasadena, in a spot next to Dog Haus. Owner Peter White says that he’s also expanding into Van Nuys and Echo Park with Plancha Tacos, which are somewhere between traditional taco joints and the healthful eating trend that is sweeping the nation. Alongside lettuce wraps and bowls, you’ll also find tacos and quesadillas. Plancha Tacos plans on having late night hours, until midnight on weekdays and 1am, with breakfast available all day.
