Perfume. Cologne. Good smells. Oh my! There’s something about changing up your everyday fragrance that can freshen up your daily routine. Yes, I’m all about finding a signature scent. (It took me a while to discover mine.) But there’s nothing wrong with adding a new perfume into the mix just as you would a different nail color, necklace, or purse. Variety, after all, is the spice of life.
I am loving the selection at Sephora these days. (Ask for Miles if you’re in Old Pasadena’s location—he’s a genius.) Not only do they have colognes and perfumes for both men and women, they have various sizes and strengths for every budget. One of my favorite ways to sample new fragrances is to buy rollerballs. They’re not only slim (and can fit easily into a purse or carryon), they’re an inexpensive way to add new scents to your collection as most run for under $30.
And, if you’re interested in creating a new scent, there’s an event for you, right here in Pasadena. On August 12th, The Institute for Art and Olfaction’s founder Saskia Wilson-Brown is putting on a perfume-blending workshop. Here, you’ll learn “perfumery and blending basics.” Then, you’ll select five unique aromatic materials that you’ll blend into your very own scent “inspired by the historic and modern landscape and tones of Pasadena.”
Plus? You’ll get to keep a 5ml sample of your creation.
Here’s all the information you need to know:
Date: Saturday, August 12th
Where: Smith Alley
When: 1pm – 2:30pm or 3pm – 4:30pm

The Institute for Art and Olfaction was founded in 2012 with a “goal…to create new points of entry for people interested in the field of olfaction, while accommodating creative ideas in all mediums” (www.artandolfaction.com).
