Summer wedding season is here. Which means it’s time to invest in a few pieces that’ll make each event as special as the couple you’re celebrating.
So, where do you begin?
First, determine the type of wedding(s) you’re attending. Is it black tie? Backyard casual? Or cocktail chic? Knowing the style will help guide you as you shop. Not sure? Ask the bride. She’ll have the exact idea of what her guests should wear. (Trust me. She’ll know.)
Next, make note of the wedding time and the reception time. Indoors or outdoors or both? Summer days can be brutal, while indoor ballrooms can feel like an icebox. Knowing your environment will steer you towards the right wedding attire purchases.
And lastly, find out what the wedding colors are. While this isn’t necessary (I don’t believe Emily Post requires this, after all), it can be fun knowing you jive with the wedding party. A dear friend of mine did this at my wedding, and I loved it—it showed an extra layer of thought and care.
Once you’ve taken stock of the above, it’s time to figure out your pieces! I’d make sure whatever type of wedding you’re attending to invest in one or two outfits you can mix and match your jewelry, shoes, and bags with to make them last all (wedding) season long.
On my wedding guest list?
This eyelet shirtdress from J.Crew would be perfect for a backyard or outdoor wedding this summer. The bright green is vibrant and fun and would pair perfectly with metallic sandals and statement earrings.
Love this floral midi with long full sleeves from Zara. It’s breezy for outdoors but provides coverage for any kind of indoor reception. Paired with pink velvet heels and delicate silver jewelry and you’re ready for the dance floor.
I adore this black fringed dress—flirty, fun, and a steal of a price. (Under $30!) For a more casual evening look, throw on some brightly colored flats and a festive clutch. Or add some sleek black heels and an elegant purse for a dressier ensemble.
Evening doesn’t always mean black—instead, think of a bold color in a formal style to wear to a summer wedding. Like this emerald green asymmetrical cutout gown. The gorgeous green keeps things summery, while the length and cutout design keep things dressy for evening.
What will you wear this summer?
