The next time you go to Umami Burger, be adventurous and try the Impossible Burger, which was introduced into their menu just yesterday. I promise that you will be surprised.
The Impossible Burger is plant-based, but you would never know it. I tasted it on Wednesday, and if no one had told me I would never have figured out that it wasn’t real meat. I was served a tall burger with two patties, both crunchy on the outside, with that texture of charbroiled meat that we so love in our burgers. It came, of course, with all fixings – cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, caramelized onions, and the special Umami dressing – an outstanding burger, surprising, impossible! you’d say, that I’m convinced you will love.
This is the result of a partnership between Umami Burger and Impossible Foods, a company based in Redwood City, CA, which mission is to make delicious “meat,” “fish,” and “dairy,” from plants. They want to transform the global food system to support nine billion humans by 2050. Its CEO/Founder is Patrick O. Brown, M.D. Ph.D – Professor Emeritus in Standford University’s Biochemistry Department, a really bright guy who wanted to address climate change. The ingredients in the burger are water, textured wheat protein, coconut oil, potato protein, natural flavors, and 2% or less of products like soy, yeast, salt, vitamins B1 and B6.
Impossible Burger was first launched in New York City last year, extended to various restaurants in the east coast, and now it’s here in the west at nine Umami locations. Pasadena is luckily one of them. Also offering it are the restaurants in Santa Monica, DTLA on Broadway, DTLA at the Arts District, Hollywood, Los Feliz, Costa Mesa, Anaheim, and Thousand Oaks.
Help the planet by tasting a meatless burger made for meat lovers. Everybody wins! Umami Burger Pasadena is located at 49 E. Colorado Blvd.
