With holiday weekends and summer coming up, it’s the perfect time to start planning those road trips! While I’m not the best road tripper (I get fidgety and need lots of stops and snacks), I do enjoy packing for one. Who doesn’t love the idea of throwing as much as you can in your car? Of course, what you pack depends on where you’re headed. So let’s focus on close-to-home road trips: Santa Barbara, Ojai, Laguna Beach, Palm Springs.
The first thing I plan is what to wear in the car. If you’ve got an hour or three to drive, comfort is always key. Your favorite pair of worn-in jeans or joggers are a plus. Sneaks or some type of flats that are easy to slip in and out of are perfect for in the car / out of the car comfort. And light layers are a must, especially since the AC will be on blast while the temps outside will be high.
Along with comfort, I always consider wrinkle-ability. Get me? There’s nothing worse than riding in a car for several hours, getting to your destination, and appearing like a wrinkled mess. An easy way to get around this is wearing the right type of fabric. A polyester blouse is my favorite option—no wrinkles but lots of stylish charm (like this one, this one, and this one.)
And then there’s what else to pack.
Headed to the beach? Be sure to include these three essentials!
Swimsuit — whether you love a one piece like I do or a two piece, be sure to pack the perfect bathing suit. Treat it like an outfit choice—something you’ll enjoy putting on (no matter your shape). Which can mean a suite with a pretty pattern; interesting cut; unique drape; or bold colors.
Perfect pair of sandals — so many times I think I need to pack multiple pairs of shoes; but honestly? If I take my favorite pair of sandals, I’m pretty set! Be sure to pack ones that can be dressed up or down. A pair with a small block heel usually does it. And anything with a lace-up tie is a win in my book. Like these or these.
Headed to the desert? Don’t forget these three items!
