There’s always something going on in Pasadena’s dining scene. Here are just a few of the things that you can look forward to in May, whether you are on a budget, looking for a special occasion splurge or just want to try something new.
For a Steal:
I’m not usually a fan of cafeteria-style dining or chain restaurants as I find both to be on the unappetizing side due to the supersized portions and lack of imagination. But Lemonade is an exception to the rule. Lemonade tends to have California-trendy foods that fill you up for a reasonable price. Also, the seasonal menu helps things from getting too stagnant. Up next on the vast roster of selections is a chicken sandwich, a poke salad and a comfort food dish featuring short ribs, Brussel sprouts and noodles.
For a Splurge:
Alexander’s Steakhouse is really much more of a decadent dining destination than a typical steakhouse and the upcoming Caviar & Beef special dining event proves it. The $300 price tag is more in alignment with cities that get recognition from the Michelin Guide, but the Northern California location does hold a few stars from years past so if you consider the cost of a plane ticket to get to another exceptional food city, it’s really quite a steal. The menu is prepared by a chef recognized for his work at Michelin 3 Star rated Joel Robuchon Las Vegas and offers an optional $95 wine pairing as well, in addition to luxurious caviar and beef-centric dishes, finished with dessert and a selection of mignardises.

Pasadena is not only the newest location of Hot Star, a Taiwan-based chicken joint, a few other restaurants that may be of interest have also opened their doors recently. Bistro Mon Cheri recently opened up as an East meets West culinary experience. Chef Kimmy Tang, best known for her 9021 PHO restaurants and being a part of LA’s Asian Fusion culinary obsession for over 30 years. Bistro Mon Cheri is her latest concept and features updated takes on Asian dishes ranging from noodles to curries. http://www.bistromoncheri.com
