The Young Artist Competition winner Rufus Bordal will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 next to the Pasadena Community Orchestra (PCO) this Friday, May 12, at the First Church of the Nazarene. Together they will also delight the audience with music inspired by Spain (Massenet’s wonderful ballet music to Le Cid), Gypsies (the lively Hungarian Dance No. 19 by Brahms), and Slavic countries (Tchaikovsky’s monumental March Slave).
Rufus Bordal began his piano studies at the age of 6. He is now 16 years old and has already won numerous piano competitions, including first place finishes in the Los Angeles Young Musicians International Competition, in the statewide Kathryn Gawartin Chopin Piano Competition, and in the Los Angeles Young Pianist Competition. In addition, Rufus is a cellist in the Samohi Symphony Orchestra and has received numerous scholarship awards in both piano and cello.
PCO has gifted fine classical music to our community for 34 years. The admission into this concert is free (donations are welcome at the door), and no reservations are needed.
The First Church of the Nazarene is located at 3700 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., one block west of Michillinda Ave. Parking is free and wheelchair accessible. Immediately following the concert, you may meet the soloist, the Music Director, and the other musicians at a reception.
For further information, please contact PCO at 626.445.6708 or email publicity@pcomusic.org. Find the group online at pcomusic.org, or become social with them through Facebook and Twitter.
This event is possible with the support of the Michael J. Connell Foundation, the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission, the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division, the Pasadena Community Foundation, the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts, and the LA County Arts Commission.
