Pasadena’s burger scene is famous and goes back eons to when a teenager created the cheeseburger in 1924 right here in town. This culinary invention is honored every year with the annual Cheeseburger Week celebration. In addition to being the birthplace of the cheeseburger, Pasadena has also been the home of many favorite burger joints over the years, including Jake’s. And until a couple of years ago, Jake’s was a favorite place to grab a burger on Colorado Blvd. Jake’s may be out, but the building will soon be home to Feel Burgers and Fries.
Feel Burgers and Fries has been slinging burgers over in Glendale for a few years now and is a popular spot for Glendale Community College students looking for a quick bite. Feel Burger has a vast menu of burgers, many of which are topped with cheese as well as non-beef options, including turkey, chicken, salmon and veggie, so that you can still grab a diner-style burger without breaking a meat-free streak. There are other non-burger options too including basic salads, and a selection of fried snacks including fries, onion rings, chicken fingers and fish sticks. It’s nice to know that Jake’s successor won’t be going too far from burgers.
And if you’re craving a burger until Feel Burgers officially opens down the road, there are plenty of other options around town. Slater’s serves up gourmet and crazy burger creations. Pie N Burger is considered an LA institution. Another classic burger creation, the chili burger, is also available all around town. You can check out some of our favorite versions here. And because nothing goes better with burgers than a chocolate milkshake, check out the best creamy concoctions here. And of course Lucky Boy has everything from basic burgers to burritos and sandwiches.
Before being forced out by increased rent prices, Jake’s had been serving burgers and offering pool in a basement for 68 years. It’s nice to see a new burger joint carrying on the burgers on Colorado tradition.
