The last few years has brought attention to Pasadena as a mid-sized city with a big impact on food. As a food city within a food city, Pasadena hosts many food-centric events throughout the year, participating in DineLA, and celebrating the invention of the cheeseburger as well as hometown culinary legend Julia Child. The latest upcoming food event is Pasadena Restaurant Week, which is kicking off at the end of the month, April 30-May 5th. It’s an opportunity to try new places and new dishes at old favorites.
For the uninitiated, Pasadena Restaurant Week showcases Pasadena’s reign as a dining destination, with restaurants including local chains, casual spots, and fine dining destinations participating in the event. It’s a chance for locals to enjoy deals at their favorite spots or try new places that have opened up around town. It can also be a fun way to enjoy spending more time out and about rather than stuck at home cooking. Check out a few of this year’s participants and then look at each restaurant’s website closer to the event to check out what’s on the menu for the week:
On the lighter side, try the $20 lunch at Plate 38. Plate 38 is generally a great place to go for a deal, they have twice daily happy hours, various tasting menus and other rotating and regular specials.
Café Bizou is popular with locals and is always pretty booked, so be sure to make your reservations in advance.
Vertical Wine Bistro makes for an elegant night out and the $45 dinner is a rare affordable splurge.
Because Pasadena Restaurant Week runs into Cinco de Mayo, some restaurants may offer different festivities on that date. In some cases, restaurants may offer discounts or specials instead of a prix fixe menus. Two course lunch deals are available for $15, $20 or $25 and three course dinner deals are $27, $36 or $45, with pricing at the discretion of the restaurant—and some may include additional supplements and/or beverages. There are over 30 restaurants, eateries and bars participating in the late April event, get all the details at http://www.pasadenarestaurantweek.com. And then make your reservations through Open Table.
