The weather this past week has me dreaming of spring time—more specifically, this spring’s fashion trends. While I adore fall and winter, there is something magical about spring. Soft breezes; fresh flowers; light layers; and all the new, pretty things to fill your closet with.
This season, there are some trends I’m loving and some I’ll be steering clear of. But isn’t that like always? What from the below will you and won’t you be wearing this spring?
Athleisure—this is one of my favorite trends from last season. And the fact that it’s returning for spring? Gets me all kinds of happy. Along with joggers, zip-ups, and soft everything, bodysuits and sporty separates are now included in this season’s trend.
Utilitarian—chic and sophisticated, the utilitarian trend combines interesting details with sleek shapes. Designers used khaki in just about every way on the runway, meaning you’ll be wearing this utilitarian trend everywhere.
80s glam—maybe it’s because I grew up in the 80s, but I am not looking forward to this trend. Puffed up sleeves? Crazy ruffles? Flashdance shoulders? Actually—that last one I can get behind. A slouchy sweater that’s placed deftly off one shoulder = comfy chic in my book.
Slogan—get ready to make a statement on your tee. Love InStyle’s take on this trend: “Perfect for the introvert—tees and dresses that do all the talking for you.”
Statement earrings—the bigger the better, apparently. Which is OK by me. I adore a statement earring. Paired with a simple tee and jeans and you’re good for brunch or a night out on the town.
Platform flats—not yet sure how I feel about these, but I always love seeing a flat as a trend. This one? Adds a bit of height without the pain of a heel.
Along with accessories and clothing, color plays a huge part in defining spring’s latest trends. This season, yellow is having a moment, along with earth tones and bright primaries. According to Executive Director, “One of the things that we saw this year, was a renewed sense of imagination in which color was appearing in context that was different than the traditional[.]
[“]Reminiscent of the hues that surround us in nature, our Spring 2017 Fashion Color Report evokes a spectrum of emotion and feeling.”
