As 2016 comes to a close, take a look back at some of the restaurants that have opened in Pasadena during the last year and make it your new year’s resolution to give them a try in 2017, if you haven’t already had the chance:
TLT opened in the Playhouse district, as part of a new center and serves up pretty much anything you can imagine.
Spudd’s introduced gourmet poutine to Pasadena via a small spot in a strip mall. Other casual additions around town include Harlowe’s French Dip and a True Food Kitchen locale as well as a taste of India via Annapura Grill.
On the finer side of things, it seems that sushi and seafood are still finding favor. Lost at Sea is already earning rave reviews from critics and locals and will hopefully enjoy similar success to nearby Union, which has become an LA staple in a few short years.
For a coffee and a pastry, Two Kids Coffee found success via a kickstarter campaign in South Pasadena and Oh My Pan Bakery and Tea left the greater San Gabriel Valley to open a second location in our neck of the woods.
More recently another ramen spot has opened up around town, putting our city on trend with the rest of Los Angeles as the noodles continue to gain popularity. Check out Zabon Ramen Bar, which has origins in Japan and uses bone broth for a rich flavor. It’s riding on other ramen spots and the newest food trend to arrive in town, bone broth.
Both the Hungtington Gardens and the Descanso Gardens got a gourmet boost of flavor courtesy of celebrity chef collaborations.
Looking into the new year, The Arbour, on South Lake Avenue is due to open soon. It is connected to a culinary family with strong Pasadena roots as it helmed by Ian Gresik, former Drago Centro chef de cuisine, one of the restaurants in the Celestino family. It will also be the latest addition to what is turning out to be a dining district in the South Lake area, which has an assortment of new spots.
Here’s to a new year of delicious dining!
