2016 is coming to an end but there’s no end of the great deals that you can look forward to in 2017. January 2017 kicks of California’s official Restaurant Month, when restaurants and eateries in counties and cities throughout the state offer deals on their best. For Pasadena, this means celebrating Cheeseburger Week from January 8th to 13th. Pasadena has rich history food as not only the birthplace of one of America’s most legendary chefs, Julia Child, but also the humble cheeseburger. Check out some of the deals around town that pay homage to the delicious way cheese can enhance the humble burger.
Participants in Cheeseburger Week include fine dining like Constance Perry’s by Claud Beltran at the Hotel Constance and Pop Champagne to classic burger joints like Pie N Burger. Pie ‘n Burger and Meat District Company offer special deals on their cheeseburgers while some spots, like El Portal, Meat District Company and Kings Row Gastropub, create special burgers just for the annual event.
To help you best enjoy Cheeseburger Week, The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce has created a Cheeseburger Crawl for each neighborhood in town. Bring along friends in groups of four or eight so that you can try more burgers at each participating spot.
Over on the South Lake Avenue Cheeseburger Crawl, start with an All-American Burger or Ahi Tuna Burger at Green Street Restaurant before heading next door to The Counter for a Chipotle Chicken Burger. End your night of burger bites with an American Wagyu Burger or Wood Grilled Cheeseburger at SECO New American Cuisine and Butcher Cut Bacon Cheeseburger Del Frisco’s Grille.
For a more traditional cheeseburger celebration, start your night at Pie ‘n Burger, probably the oldest and most famous burger spot in town before heading to Dog Haus, out to Clearman’s Galley and finishing the night at Robin’s Woodfire BBQ.
Wherever you celebrate cheeseburgers, toast to Lionel Sternberger, credited with inventing the cheeseburger by adding a slice of cheese to a hamburger at the Rite Spot in Pasadena in 1924. And if you’re up for it, take time to vote for your favorite cheeseburger in the annual Cheeseburger Challenge.
