In a city obsessed with food it can be hard to keep up with what is coming and going. Here’s a brief roundup of some of the latest places to check out around town Pasadena, from Old Pasadena to South Pasadena.
Over in Old Town, in the spot that was occupied by Azeen’s Afghani for ages, there’s a new Mexican fine dining spot, Maestro. The place is undergoing an extensive remodel and should be opening up any time. There are also plans for a patio space at the Gold Line Metro. The focus is on cocktails and Mexican liquors, Mezcal and tequila, so it would be a nice way to commute.
Craft Hill just opened it’s third location, this one in South Pasadena. Focused on using seasonal and local sources for ingredients, the results are showcased in dishes that namedrop the names of various farms and providers in a farm-to-table restaurant that strives to be unpretentious. Menus focus on vibrant fresh produce in dishes that are familiar yet often have an unexpected twist like tator tots topped with beef cheeks. There are vegetarian dishes ranging from a cauliflower steak to flatbread toppings. The extensive menu walks a line between comfort foods and trendy foods like avocado toast.
Not far from the Rose Bowl, Perry’s Joint looks to have opened in August and is already busy satisfying customers looking for a hearty sandwich. The small sandwich and ice cream spot is also known to be a hub of community activity, hosting discussions and fundraising for scholarships.
It had been mentioned back in May that Orange County’s Bru Grill was planning to move onto Lake, with other opening restaurants, in the former Trattoria Neapolis spot and now it looks as though it is finally official and open. Bru Grill definitely looks like the place to take the family, friends, meet up for drinks or enjoy just about any meal. With seemingly endless options, the soft opening includes happy hour deals on wine, craft cocktails and draft beers along with an extensive selection of happy hour deals with the regular prices conveniently listed so that you can see the deals. Check out the small plates, flatbreads, sliders and wings.
