Cool weather might be a little hit or miss, but all over town, it’s beginning to taste a lot like fall, from special menu items to the upcoming Fall Food and Wine Festival at the end of the month.
Over at Green Street Restaurant, one of the city’s beloved dining destinations, they’re gearing up for fall by adding a series of fall-themed items to the food and dessert menus, and even an autumnal beer. Stop by and try the October special sandwich featuring cheddar apple and pastrami with an Alesmith Octoberfest beer from a craft brewery in San Diego, and follow it up with your choice of pumpkin cheesecake or apple pie. And you can probably find a few old favorites on the menu to enjoy as well.
At Café Santorini, the stuffed butternut squash is a regular on the menu and seems especially appropriate for this time of year when the markets are teaming with squash. For a sweet treat, try the apple tart that has been a favorite for over 20 years or go for the more updated poached pear for a seasonal delight.
To experience all the fall flavors, head to the annual Huntington Hospital’s Fall Food & Wine Festival, a partnership between Huntington Hospital and Parkway Grill. Held on the last Sunday in October, this year’s event is on October 30, taking place between the Parkway Grill and the Arroyo Chop House in Pasadena. You get the opportunity to try foods from local restaurants, try wines from different wineries, different spirits, beers and enjoy dancing and live music. The event not only brings together local foods with local foodies, but also raises money to provide care and support for patients with potentially life-threatening injuries at Huntington Hospital Trauma Center. Every type of restaurant in the area is participating, from ritzy to family friendly, huge chains and even smaller specialty places as well. Tickets must be bought in advance and you can also get a sponsorship table for a heftier donation. Part of each ticket is tax deductible but reservations for the fanciful fall event are limited. Check out the incredible list of participating purveyors as well as learn more about the cause and all the details like ticket prices and reservations at http://fallfoodandwine.com.
