Dr. Lee Scott Thiesen, an expert on food, culture and Latin American history is giving a presentation on “Xocalati” (Chocolate) at the Pasadena Senior Center in Old Pasadena on August 22. The presentation features a history of chocolate from its origins to the present day and sweetest of all, a chocolate tasting is offered at the end of the event. If you can’t make it, there are still plenty of places to get a hit of the good stuff, all over town.
Amara is one of the best chocolate shops I’ve ever been to. From drinking chocolate coffee drinks to chocolate candies and snacks and savories, there’s nothing that isn’t wonderfully delightful. It’s also perfect for gifts and celebrations.
Mignon is more of a special occasion spot, or a place to pick up an extra special touch for a party. After all, nothing makes a day more special than a truffle or box of candy.
And there’s no place more perfect for having a perfect day than at Contessa Chocolate Collection. Luisa Fabbri, owner of the Contessa Chocolate Collection encourages guests to sit and stay a while, whether you’re enjoying a cup of espresso or a chocolate truffle in an unexpected flavor.
There’s no shortage of creative chocolate pastries that can be found at the bakeries around town.
Oh My Pan Bakery is one of the newcomers to town, and the second location of a popular San Gabriel spot. Along with fruit filled breads and Asian desserts, there are decadent chocolate desserts.
Over at 85C, you can find all kinds of creative goodies, with and without chocolate. And apparently moon cake season is around the corner, although they traditionally have nothing to do with chocolate.
Nothing gets a morning started like a chocolate croissant and iced mocha from Europane. You can also find cookies, cakes, macaroons and an assortment of other chocolate pastries at the numerous bakeries that are around town, which are pretty much always a perfect treat.
With persistently hot weather, ice cream is the perfect way to enjoy a chocolaty treat. Check out my rundown of ice cream joints and other frozen treats.
