For some reason, I tend to look for new trends only when seasons change. Once we’re well into a season, I somehow believe new trends cease. However, according to several articles from The Wall Street Journal, trends—like the temperatures—are on the rise as we speak.
First up? The peek-a-boo back look. “Skin-baring cutouts and low dips are anything but backward—and you can even wear some of the more discreet tops and dresses to work,” says The Wall Street Journal. I have yet to try this trend, mostly because I haven’t braved it. But as I peruse photos of pieces with strategically placed cutouts, I find the trend sophisticated and classy, even if some skin is showing. It’s definitely more tasteful than say a plunging neckline or thigh-high slit.

Next on the list is the cowgirl trend. Yes, you read that right. According to The Wall Street Journal, “rodeo-inspired dress and decor—a key midcentury theme—has returned, and designers aren’t just horsing around.” This includes everything from rhinestones, suede, fringe, and calfskin.

Last one is for the men: classy summer slide-on shoes. Time to replace your flip flops with hard-soled leather slip-ons. They’re just as easy to put on. And? Are entirely versatile. “Wear them in the backyard with gym shorts and a tee. Take them to the office with a linen suit,” says The Wall Street Journal. “They work on the beach or at a bar. Accommodating as they are, however, these shoes aren’t flimsy, thanks to their sturdy rubber or leather soles.” Making the high price tag worth it.
