The recent tragedy in Nice, France during a Bastille Day celebration is a poignant reminder to appreciate other cultures. Get a taste of France’s amazing food culture by supporting one of the many French eateries around town, from Old Pasadena to South Pasadena and in between.
French Restaurants in Pasadena and South Pasadena
Café Bizou is a cozy spot that has a longtime clientele, thanks to a reliable menu and ongoing specials, like prix fixe meals for both lunch and dinner and the $2 corkage fee, which practically screams that you BYOB. The service is attentive and the staff is well versed at handling large parties as well as smaller tables. It tends to be a go-to spot for special occasions, but it really is a perfect staple for any day of the week.
Bistro 45 is an elegant fine dining spot off Colorado. As cozy as any spot in France, Bistro 45 is an AroundTownPasadena.com favorite, thanks to an ever-hanging menu of seasonal dishes and a long time friendship with the owner.
Bistro de la Gare borrows flavors from nearby Italy but relies on local produce from the nearby South Pasadena Farmer’s Market and so takes some slight liberties with it’s French cuisine. The menu changes seasonally, but also offers classic French bistro standbys, like escargots and mussels in white wine broth.
French Bakeries and Creperies in Pasadena and South Pasadena
Crepes de Paris is reminiscent of Paris’ omnipresent crepe windows. Crepes de Paris has several locations that offer a menu of standard sweet and savory crepes and a few soups and salads as well as crepes that are made to be eaten on the go.
CREPEstudio is a local favorite, probably because of the vast menu that includes not only crepes that lean toward more creative than traditional but because there is also a breakfast menu as well as sandwiches, salads and a happy hour for select beverages and crepes.
And of the course the countless French-inflected Asian bakeries and restaurants, like Maison Akira or Euro Pane, are also delicious ways to celebrate French culture.
Our thoughts are with France in the wake of the recent events in Nice.
