Readers, I want to introduce you to an amazing gal and local jewelry designer, Jessie Dahlstrom. Her company? The Wild Bloem. Her mission? To make jewelry that is one-of-a-kind, handmade, and affordable. Can we say, hallelujah?
The Wild Bloem began when a “boring 9-5 office job” left Jessie craving a creative outlet. “I have always needed to create things to feel myself,” she says. So, like many working artists, nights became her craft time. She designed and made beaded necklaces for herself and friends. When the compliments on her pieces began to grow, she made a decision to branch out from giving away her jewelry to selling it on Etsy. And thus, The Wild Bloem was born.
About the name. “There is a quote from St. Therese that I really love and really resonated with me about how sometimes we want to try to be perfect and ‘the best,’ but there is a lot of beauty in simple and humble souls,” says Jessie. Specifically, the quote reds, “[i]f every tiny flower wanted to be a rose, spring would lose its loveliness and there would be no wild flowers to make the meadows gay.”
“I just kept reminding myself about the beauty in ‘the wild flower,’ and from that I came up with The Wild Bloem, which is Dutch, like my cute husband.”
And her pieces are just that — uniquely beautiful. Her necklaces are made with clay beads she cooks in her oven, wooden beads she paints, and felt raw wool she transforms into beads, all which are strung on coated cords. The jewelry is bright; fun; whimsical; and reflective of the artist herself. Jessie’s smile and joy are infectious. Her spunky personality is genuine. And her outward beauty is just as gorgeous as her inward beauty. All of which shines through her jewelry.
But so do the influences of her friends and family.
“The people around me have really inspired me to create…When I make necklaces[…] I think about certain friends of mine that I think would like them so I end up making ones that are more diverse than just my own style,” says Jessie. Plus, along with her husband Ryan and daughter Noe Jane, one of her biggest influences is her brother, an artist. “[H]is art is amazing and his thoughts about art are so refreshing and intriguing.”
Jessie lives in Pasadena with her husband Ryan, daughter Noe Jane, and adorable pup. Coffee house exploring, homemade ice cream making, and Instagram video watching of funny animals tickle this local artist. Not to mention hanging with her friends and sweet little family. You can find Jessie’s jewelry online at Etsy | The Wild Bloem and LB Los Angeles.
