Time goes by fast, and the summer fun is already here. The concerts at the Pasadena Levitt Pavilion began last week and will remain to entertain us through September 24. Thursday through Sunday each week you’ll be able to take your pick at artists, both local and visiting, that will help you unwind and perhaps even let loose with a dance step or two. You can see a list of participating artists by following this link.
Some of the acts we’ll see for the first time this year, but below we’d like to tell you about a few of them that we already know.
This Sunday, July 3, at 7 p.m., Dr. Bobby Rodriguez will perform. He is a talented trumpeter and a native of East Los Angeles who, along with his band, will delight you with contagious Latin Jazz numbers. He has earned one gold and three platinum records, so you can rest assured that he knows what he is doing. Dr. Rodriguez is also quite inspirational. He is BIG on education and always leaves his audience with a few nuggets of wisdom. His words may do your teenagers good.
On Friday, July 15, at 8 p.m. Darlingside will be on stage. This is a Boston based quartet that features great harmonies and the command of multiple instruments. From them you’ll hear bluegrass, classical, even barbershop, by means of guitars, mandolins, various percussion instruments, and classical strings. In February Darlingside was selected as the Winner Folk Alliance Artist of the Year.
On Sunday, July 24, at 7 p.m. Louie Cruz Beltran will deliver a good dose of Latin Jazz. Maybe you’ve seen him already – Beltran has been rather busy this summer singing the National Anthem at Dodgers’ and Angels’ games. But if you haven’t yet, get to the Pavilion on this date to watch a man that aside from being a fine musician is a true entertainer. He will crack you up with his jokes, and he will impress you as he switches from the congas, to the timbales, to the microphone.
There’s much more that could be said about artists like Yuval Ron (Aug. 20), Afro Funke (Aug. 27), and Pete Escovedo (Sep. 4), but we’ll leave it here. The truth is that much could be said about every artist on the roster. Just make sure to enjoy at few of them in the upcoming months!
The Pasadena Levitt Pavilion is located in Memorial Park, at 85 East Holly Street in Pasadena. Concerts are free of charge. Bring a blanket, low back chairs, and a picnic, or you can purchase from a few food trucks. Bring the entire family and some sun block for your nose. It’ll be great fun!
