I’ll admit it. I have walked by this shop dozens of times on the way to Anthropologie and J.Crew and have yet to stop in. What is wrong with me?? Because The Soap Kitchen looks amazing. “Our mission is to provide a healthy alternative to mass-produced commercial soaps, shampoos and shower gels which can contain harmful toxins and chemicals,” writes its website. All products here are hand-made and use only the finest essential oils and herbs. Nothing is ever tested on animals, and are “committed to preserving the earth, the animals and the environment, one handmade bar at a time…”
If this doesn’t bring customers in, I don’t know what will!
The Soap Kitchen has been in Old Pasadena for over a decade, managed by its creator, Dali. Dali, whose love of the product began after trying an all natural handmade soap herself, dedicated months to researching the perfect product before launching her store. Beside her are her entrepreneurial mom and dad, who help wrap and label the soaps, along with providing Dali with daily support.
Plus? Their product list is endless. Or so it seems. From lip balms, shaving soaps, and bath salts to soy candles, shampoo bars, and essential oils, The Soap Kitchen has a plethora of items to choose from. All handmade.
What intrigues me are their subscription boxes. Or rather, soapscriptions. Ranging from $95 to $380, clients can purchase annual or bi-annual sopascritions. An annual soapscription includes two different bars of Olive Oil or Shea Butter soaps—each month. The cost? $190. (Or for only six months of soaps, $95.) For couples not willing to share, clients can sign up for a couple’s soapscription—annual costs $380, while six months costs $190. And each of these boxes comes with four soaps.
So, if you’re anything like me and have haphazardly skipped by this store, don’t. Next time, walk in and peruse their amazing product. You won’t be disappointed!
