Dana Carvey’s upcoming appearance at Pasadena’s legendary comedy club, The Ice House, on April 16 is sure to be legendary. Kind of like the $20 ticket price for seeing the Emmy-winning performer and SNL standout. But what’s really important about Carvey coming to town is that you’ll need something to eat because while the shows at the historic venue are great, you might not want to take the time to eat there, although they do offer a menu filled with classics. And the two-drink minimum means that you need something to soak up the alcohol. Luckily, there are several places in the surrounding area where you can find something for any taste, from a fancy meal to a quick and casual stop and then walk to the club. Here are just a few suggestions:
Grab some samosas to get started or share some classic Indian dishes at one of the best Indian restaurants in town.
Bistro 45 is an intimate spot to enjoy a fine dining experience. The fancy atmosphere is a great contrast to the laidback dive quality of the Ice House, and everything on the menu is always a good choice.
Sushi before a show is a good bet so that you can order a little or a lot. Go for the light menu or pick and choose your own sushi, split a roll or dip some dumplings.
Pig out with the selection of pulled pork options at Braise and Crumble or try something a little more veggie friendly. And don’t forget to finish off the meal with one of the petite crack pies.
El Metate is just around the corner from The Ice House and the family run business has been a pre-show dining tradition for Pasadena since the spot opened around 10 years ago. Devoted to service, you are sure to enjoy the extensive menu, which runs the gamut from seafood to soups and generous portions—which you may want to split.
After the show, head by Afters Ice Cream on your way home for a late night treat.
