There are times I get into a makeup rut. Putting on the same things, over and over again, can make my makeup routine feel less beautifying and more robotic. Anyone else agree? What I’ve discovered to help in these desperate times (#firstworldproblems) is Sephora’s complimentary mini makeovers.
They’re free; they’re quick; and they require no appointment. I’ve taken advantage of these twice now. Once when I was looking for new lipstick and once when I was in need of new eye shadow. True, I went into Sephora trying to scope out these products on my own. But with so many options, colors all seem to blend together after a while. Enter in the beauty goddesses. Sephora is amazing at helping the clueless without making them (ahem, me) feel lame.
Like my lipstick gal.
I stood wide-eyed at the NARS aisle, searching for new lip colors. Thankfully, a friendly worker swooped in to help. She plucked a few different colors up and took me to one of the make-over stations. After applying various shades, explaining why each color worked, and helping me select just the right one, she sneakily asked if I wanted a smokey eye to match. Of course I knew she was hoping I’d purchase more products, but how could I say no? Gimme that smokey eye! Because of her friendly demeanor and no-pressure-to-purchase attitude, I happily took with me the smokey eye product and my new lip shade. And left feeling purty.
Same experience happened when searching for eye shadow. Another gal noticed my naivety when staring at the Sephora shadows. She asked what I was looking for, selected several variations from multiple brands (keeping my budget in mind), and sat me down in front of a mirror. And then the mini-makeover began. Not only was I shown different eye shadows, but she schooled me on new ways to apply them. Once again, I was left with some new products and a fresh outlook on my makeup routine.
