The area surrounding the Pasadena Playhouse has a million places to sit down and enjoy a meal, with the most convenient being RedWhite+Bluezz, which relocated from it’s old location a few years back to be directly next to the historic theater. Yet no matter how hard I try, I can never seem to sit down and relax to enjoy a meal before the theater. Even with the draw of the discounts and deals offered by the closest restaurant. Which is why I find it pretty exciting that TLT, a fast-casual concept, will be coming to the still-under-construction Playhouse Plaza, nearby the theater.
It won’t be open for some time, given that it is still being built, but TLT will offer late comers the ability to enjoy real food before a show, which is a plus if you’re fighting traffic because you live on the other side of town and didn’t plan ahead, other than getting your tickets in advance.
The Playhouse District is filled with dining options, but many require making a reservation so that you can be assured of being in your seat before the curtain call. Or some type of quick decision so that you don’t find yourself racing around, trying to decide between a standby and something new and ending up with a snack at intermission and fast-food taco on the way home from the show.
TLT started as a food truck serving up pretty much everything, like rice bowls and tacos as well as salads and wings. The menu remains the same eclectic mix of California cuisines but the food truck has been replaced with various restaurants, including locations in Westwood and Irvine and downtown L.A.
Given that I always want “something nice” and not just a snack or fast food but don’t always want a full sit down meal when I’m rushing to theater, TLT sounds like it will be a perfect compromise. And also a handy place to stop on non-theatrical occasions as well.
