Readers, have you checked out the weather lately? If you haven’t, all I can say is get ready for rain. And lots of it. Looks like El Nino is coming.
While I’m a Southern California native, I adore the rain. It feeds my creative soul and gives me a reason to enjoy layers, rain boots, hoodies, and mittens. When I heard El Nino could possibly come this season, I hurried out to get some rain boots (which I haven’t owned since I was five or so), a rain jacket, and multiple cold weather accessories to help keep me cozy and stylish in the downpour.
So, how about you? What do you still need to pick up to prepare for the rain?
One thing I desperately need is a an umbrella. And a cute one. Kate Spade (no surprise) has an adorable black and white stripe umbrella (with a pop of hot pink) for only $38. Forever 21 carries a Betsey Johnson leaf print ruffled umbrella for just $10.90. And of course, J.Crew’s got multi-colored, multi-patterned umbrellas for under $30. (My favorite? The black and blue leopard print. Meow!)
Another thing I need is comfortable and rain proof errand-running clothing. Know what I mean? Since I work from home, I spend a lot of time in exercise pants and zip ups; but of course, I want them to look cute. Cue Anthropologie’s line of activewear. Perfect for errands. Perfect for the rain. Like this aqua flora reversible vest. Yes, it’s $128, but it’s got two different sides of florals and would keep you warm (and looking chic) on any rainy day. Or their sempervivum leggings in a blue motif ($98); pretty, comfy, and rain/errand appropriate. You’ll never want to take ‘em off.
And last but not least, cozies. What do I mean, exactly? Items that’ll keep you warm and toasty out in the rain. Cashmere mittens; blanket scarves; wool beanies. You name it. Lou and Grey has some amazing items at amazing prices. Like? Their cashmere fingerless gloves for only $58; their cashmere beanie for only $58 (love the powder pink); and their cashmere scarf for $168. Kit and Ace, Old Pasadena’s newest boutique, also has cozies at affordable prices. Their kessler toque beanie is by far my favorite. Only $28 in a black/copper print; 100% cashmere cable knit.
