My favorite season is coming. Fall. Cooler weather, falling leaves (well, sorta), cozy drinks, and all those autumn clothes. Yes, fall in Southern California isn’t quite as picturesque and idyllic as say in Manhattan; however, we can pretend as best we can by updating our wardrobe with a few new pieces (and sip on Pumpkin Spice Lattes as if it’s crisp outside.)
Because fall is my favorite season, I’ve already done a bit of shopping. But with a budget in mind. It truly only takes a few on-season-trend pieces to make your entire wardrobe feel updated. For me? It meant a cozy sweater, new jeans, a statement coat, faux leather jacket, elegant earrings, autumn colored shoes, and a black faux leather pleated skirt. Some were a bit more of an investment than others, but each piece is versatile and will mix easily with pieces I already own. Score!
When shopping for fall, keep that in mind—versatility. Can you wear it now, while the weather is still warm? Will it pair with items already in your closet? Will the materials transition into cooler days? If you can check those boxes, then that piece is well worth purchasing.
So. What are some of the fall trends this season?
Lady Loafers — “Say hello to the stacked kitten heel,” says Elle. Can we say, hurrah?
Carwash Pleats — The hems of these skirts truly mimic the look of those carwash cleaners that wipe down your car. It’s a bold statement, but one you might want to consider. After all, the slits show of your legs in a classy yet flirty way.
Plaid — “Plaid is having a moment on the runways, particularly red plaid.” It’s chic, it’s bold, and yet still relaxed. Who knew runway fashion could be so comfortable?
Tights — I’m happy about this one. Especially in Southern California. It’s the perfect way to stay warm and add interest, all without bundling up.
Skinny scarf — While I’m not ready to say good-bye to my blanket scarves, this trend could be worth a try. The dainty shape allows for easy transition between casual and dressy—like a warm necklace.
Statement earrings — YES. I adore statement earrings and am glad to see they’re sticking around a little longer. Glamour said it best: “Minimal effort, maximum impact: The chicest way to accessorize this season.”
Long-line blazers — Longer, leaner; your work blazer just got an update.
Turtlenecks — Who knew? The best way to style it—under a dress.
Faux Fur Stoles — Love this idea because these add texture and luxe to any outfit. Plus—warmth.
