With summer just about officially here and warm weather already upon us, its time to think about some cool dishes. When you get tired of salad and smoothies, try ceviche, a Latin American favorite comprised of refreshing lime and spicy flavors that cures raw fish into a deliciously refreshing treat. Here are a few favorite places to grab a refreshing ceviche around town:
Choza 96, formerly Choza Mama, may be the only Peruvian place in town. As such, it is beholden that ceviche is included on the menu. According to Pasadena Weekly reviewer, Erica Wayne, the ceviche del mar is “delectable” and different than other versions. Wayne explains, “Cured in leche de tigre, a slightly thicker and more viscous Peruvian variant on the traditional lime juice, pepper, onion, cilantro and chile marinade, which is deemed to be not only delicious but also a hangover cure and purported aphrodisiac…”

La Grande Orange Café offers a shrimp ceviche appetizer that has jicama for an additional crunch. Yelpers love the plump sizable shrimp and the fried chips that come along to scoop up the refreshing treat. Better yet, LGO has plenty of other raw fish dishes so that you can keep the theme going until you fill up.

Cabrera’s Mexican Cuisine has 3 locations in the area, so you can get your fix of ceviche in Arcadia, Pasadena and Duarte. The longtime establishment has been around so long that the ceviche has been a dubbed a favorite menu item by many local Yelpers. While many ceviches are only fish or only shrimp, the ceviche at Cabrera’s uses both, as well as additional chiles for an extra hit of heat.
