May 2 – Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Martinez at the Ambassador Auditorium
The Pasadena Symphony will conclude its season on Saturday, May 2, with Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Martinez performing Grieg’s popular piano concerto at the Ambassador Auditorium with matinee and evening performances at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
The romantic Piano Concerto written by Edvard Grieg, “the Chopin of the North,” explores the drama and joy of Norwegian folk dances and festivities, as written for his wife Clara. Romantic programming will weave the concert together with Sergei Prokofiev’s dramatic interpretation of Romeo and Juliet.
The performances will be accompanied by a pre-concert discussion that will give the audience insights into the music and the musicians one-hour before curtain.
The Ambassador Auditorium is located at 131 South St. John Avenue, Pasadena, CA. Ticket prices start at $20 and may be purchased online at http://www.pasadenasymphony-pops.org or by calling (626) 793-7172. Valet parking will be available on Greet St. at $15. General parking is $10. Cash only.

The Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC) will present the world premiere of Peter Knell’s “The Vowel Owl” and the Los Angeles premiere of Mark Grey’s “The Plentiful Peach” (based on a Persian children’s story) at its annual Spring Concert on Sunday, May 3, and again on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, at 7 pm, at the Pasadena Presbyterian Church. Both works were commissioned by the LACC.
