Pasadena has a fashion school. Did you know that? No? I didn’t either. But it does and it’s a good one. The Italian Fashion School was founded by Angela Zdelar, who was born and raised in Europe but moved at a young age to the U.S. Always fascinated with fashion, Zdelar went to Italy to perfect her skills. And that’s when the idea of a fashion school hit her.
According to Zdelar, her school is unlike other fashion colleges in several ways. First, it’s a school, not a college. Second, “it’s a place to learn very particular concepts for creating clothes for actual bodies, not mannequins!” And third, it’s small and private and offers very flexible hours.
“If someone is taking just, let’s say, ladies wear, they can finish it in 400, 450 hours. In terms of how long it will take to complete the course, it depends on how many hours students want to put in per week.”
Plus, classes are small, allowing for students to go at their own pace and receive a very personal learning experience. Which, for beginners, is invaluable, especially since there are numerous important concepts to learn in every class. What will you learn? Everything. Body measurements; pattern making; pattern layout and cutting; sewing techniques; techniques used by tailors; and industrial techniques. And, no previous experience is necessary!
So, looking to further your love of fashion? Go at your own pace? Receive personal learning experience? Learn the basics and beyond? You can do it all at the Italian Fashion School.
