I’m not usually one to indulge in chains, but somehow around the holidays a visit to a BJ’s or PF Chang’s suddenly becomes inevitable with an influx of out of town guests and fussy family members. So it can be a nice change of pace to skip the crowds of Old Pasadena waiting on the corner for a table at the Cheesecake Factory to explore a different part of town. And with the recent opening of Del Frisco’s Grille on South Lake, the extended family just might have a new hangout.
Based on a casual steakhouse concept, Del Frisco’s has restaurants across the country and the newest location just happens to be in Pasadena. The dinner menu has standard salads and steaks but also a few more modern ideas like flat breads and small plates meant to be shared. There’s also the creative egg rolls and appetizers that can only be found at chains, so for dinner out with different palates, there really is something for everyone.
In keeping with steakhouse tradition, there are also daily specials, although I’m not sure they are totally something that would be served at a classic steakhouse.
The lunch menu is very close to the dinner menu, I’m assuming slightly smaller portions set it apart, but the brunch menu looks like it is definitely worth trying. There is a selection of dessert-inspired entrees like red velvet waffles and bananas foster French toast along with riffs on eggs benedicts. And of course nothing tastes better with a family gathering than a cocktail.
