This fall, Pasadena is getting a whole new type of drinking establishment. Magnolia House on South Lake is getting ready to open on October 15th, which Eater has described a s “craft cocktail bar.”
Considering how seriously we take our food, it seems only fitting that Pasadena also has a serious drinking establishment as well. Bicos Hospitality, the folks behind Gus’ BBQ and The Original Tops, has taken Magnolia House back to its roots—an adorable little California Craftsman House from 1912.
Magnolia House has some promising names creating the menu, like Evan Zimmerman. Portlandians will know him as the guy who created the cocktail programs at some of Portland’s leading eateries: The Woodsman and Laurelhurst Market.
And because nothing goes better with cocktails than small bites, the menu is set to feature upscale sounding riffs on bar food like risotto arancini balls with black truffle and crab as well as Korean chicken wings.
The space is just as interesting as the concept and menu. Originally built in 1912, Magnolia House has been through numerous incarnations but is returning to its roots with the new bar plan. The South Lake directory says that the place has been majorly modified but is being restored. And on the Magnolia House Facebook page, there is even visual proof of some of the past inhabitants, like an art gallery in the 70s and a furniture store back in the 50s.
The owners are keeping the neighborhood informed of the transition and the opening date and you can find out more at https://www.facebook.com/maghousepasadena
