Step back in time when entering Old Town Shaving Company at Stats, a quaint shop reminiscent of mom and pop establishments of the past. It’s got charm; it’s got service; it’s got items your grandparents probably bought. And, according to Yelp, it’s got an “excellent selection and a very sophisticated staff that knows their scents, soaps, and blades.” As a customer, I’d have to agree. Located on Green and Raymond, directly at the corner of Stats, Old Town Shaving Company offers an assortment of shaving accessories, scents, soaps and more.
Damon Stathatos, the owner, was inspired by the great shaving houses of England, Italy, Spain, and Germany when he created the Old Town Shaving Company. Having come from a company where customer service was highly important, Stathatos wished to bring what he learned to his own business. That and a wide assortment of brands. Everything from Trumper, Taylor, Harris, and Castle Forbes to Rooney, Simpsons, Jagger, and more. “[J]ust about every maker imaginable with even a vast and ever changing selection of vintage shaving gear and accessories, makes The Old Town Shaving Company the largest and most complete shave shop [in the world!]” writes their Facebook page.
Walk in, and you’ll see. The store feels somewhat like an apothecary set in Diagon Alley. Shelves packed with inventory. Various scents greet your nose. Items line up in rows behind glass display cases. There’s an essence of magic here. Maybe it’s because its items are different; non-modern; of a different era, almost. Maybe it’s because the dark wooden floors and shelves give the room an old charm. But whatever it is, I like it.
Plus, staff here are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. When my husband and I walked in there looking for a beard brush (for my husband, of course), one of the workers walked us through three variations, detailing the brushes’ purpose and price. (The brush he bought was actually a nail brush but worked well on beards.)
So whether you’re aching for some old time charm, a little magic, or some killer shaving tools, (possibly all three), head on over to the Old Town Shaving Company at Stats. It’ll be a treat. I promise.
