Listen up skaters and bikers, have I found the perfect store for you. Located on 300 S. Raymond, just south of Old Town Pasadena, sits Crown Roots: a haven for street wear, footwear, skateboard supplies, fixed bicycles, and more. But the store offers shoppers more than just clothing and supplies; it offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of street-wearers and owner Terence Harrison. Harrison, who grew the brand out of a partnership, has filled Crown Roots with a plethora of brands–10Deep, Benny Gold, HUF, DGK, Stussy, Rustic Dime, just to name a few.
Items are almost too numerous to count. Tee shirts, beanies, skateboards, joggers, sweatshirts, hoodies, key chains, bicycles, tee shirts, shoes, knit tops, watches, caps, and did I say tee shirts? Tee shirts with happy faces, dirty words, beach scenes, celebrities, cartoons, you name it. And for decent prices too. Like the 10Deep New Standard Maps shirt for $44 (on sale for $28); which looks just as it sounds–a light grey tee with an awesome graphic of a world map printed on it in bright colors. Or the Beach Tee by Quiet Life ($45). Because who doesn’t want a tee shirt with an image of swimsuit-clad people laying out on the sand?
But what I’m getting from this store is not only a sense of their unique brands and styles, but their involvement in the community as well. Like how they throw novelty hip hop nights right in the store. For all ages and for just $5, hip hop nights offer live entertainment, open mic opportunities, and plenty of fun. Plus Crown Roots continuously makes known its love of Pasadena–check out their online video, highlighting Pasadena’s diversity, walkability, and beauty.
So whether you follow a skater/biker lifestyle or aim to catch a glimpse, walk (bike, skateboard, run, etc.) on down to Crown Roots. It’s a destination you won’t want to miss.
